FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY

This module introduces the foundations of photography, focusing on camera control, composition, and visual observation. Through theory and hands-on practice, students learn how to work with exposure, focus, framing, and manual settings to produce clear and purposeful images. The module builds the technical and visual confidence needed for further study in photographic genres and digital imaging.

NATURAL &
STUDIO LIGHTING

This module explores how natural and studio lighting shape photographic outcomes. Students learn how light affects mood, texture, depth, colour, and emphasis, and how different lighting conditions can be used to achieve intended visual effects. The module develops practical skills in observing, controlling, and applying light in both natural and studio-based image-making.

DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

This module introduces documentary photography as a practice of observation, storytelling, and visual authorship. Students learn about ethics, planning, image selection, sequencing, and continuity, and explore how photographers shape meaningful narratives through images. The module develops both the critical and practical skills needed to produce a coherent body of documentary work.

DIGITAL IMAGING I: ADOBE PHOTOSHOP & LIGHTROOM

This module introduces digital imaging and post-production using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Students learn essential workflow skills, from image preparation and correction to retouching, compositing, and more advanced editing techniques for both realistic and creative outcomes. The module supports photographers in developing a stronger post-production process for commercial and artistic image-making.

Students learn how to photograph products through effective composition, camera settings, lighting, styling, and setup in a studio environments. The module develops practical skills in producing polished images that present products clearly and persuasively.

This module introduces the techniques and workflow of portrait photography in both indoor and outdoor settings. Students learn lighting, subject direction, and the visual considerations involved in photographing various environmental lifestyle portraits. The module develops practical skills in creating portraits that are both technically controlled and visually engaging.

This module introduces editorial design and digital publishing as forms of structured visual communication. Students learn how to organise content, work with grids, typography, imagery, and layout systems, and design publications with a clear tone and identity. The module develops practical skills in producing audience-focused editorial work for print and digital formats.

Students learn how to plan and execute fashion shoots, work with models and collaborators, develop visual themes, and use lighting and styling to create strong fashion imagery. Students learn how to select and organise work, shape a clear visual identity, present projects effectively, and understand how clients and audiences read a portfolio.
